What Medicare Part A covers
Part A also caters to inpatient healthcare if required. Costs covered by this part include:
- General clinical/nursing care
- Nursing home care
- Home healthcare
For 2020, beneficiaries pay either $252 or $458 per month as standard premiums and a $1,408 deductible for each benefit period.
Part A Eligibility
Medicare Part A is available for people who are:
- 65 years or older
- Handicapped
- Suffering from End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
To be eligible for premium-free Part A, you must:
- Receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits
- Be eligible for Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits
- You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment
If you are younger than 65, you can be eligible for premium-free Part A by:
- Receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement disability benefits for at least 24 months
- You have ESRD
