Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance program administered by the federal government designed for people who are 65 years and over, younger people who are disabled, and individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease. There are four principal designations of the Medicare program: Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D.

Medicare Part A

Medicare Part A is one half of Original Medicare. Part A provides coverage for inpatient hospital treatment or clinical facilities. Part A also caters to inpatient mental healthcare if required. Costs covered by this part include:

  • General clinical/nursing care
  • Hospice care
  • Other clinical services and provisions used in the hospital
  • Meals

For 2020, beneficiaries pay $458 per month as the standard premium if they do not receive it premium-free. The deductible for each benefit period is $1,408.

Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B is the other half of Original Medicare. Part B provides coverage for critical medical and diagnostic services, as well as outpatient care, home healthcare, and durable medical equipment. Medical caregiving services rendered by Part B include:

  • Bone Density evaluation
  • Blood
  • Diabetic analysis
  • Diabetes supply
  • Chiropractic services
  • EKG
  • HIV screening
  • Clinical lab services
  • Hepatitis B shots,
  • Cardiac rehabilitation, etc.

For 2020, the monthly premium for Part B is set at $144.60. This amount may be greater if your annual remuneration is more than $87,000. Additionally, the annual deductible is $198.

Medicare Part C

Medicare Part C is known as Medicare Advantage Plans. They are supplementary insurance policies issued by private insurers who are accredited by Medicare. Members who have Part C must have enrolled with Parts A and B beforehand. Part C includes drug coverage, dental, vision, and hearing care, among other benefits.

    Medicare Part D

Part D covers prescription drug groups that must be issued by a physician, such as an injection or an infusion. Part D is usually covered by the insurance company, while Part D plans and copays may vary.

For 2020, if the cost of your drugs reaches $4,020, you’ll be responsible for 25% of the cost of the prescription drugs that you’ll purchase for the remainder of the year.

    Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans are called Medigap Plans and comprise ten different plans, each designated by a letter, and offered by private insurers. All Medigap plans are standardized and labeled A through N. This means that each plan type offers the same basic coverage irrespective of the insurance provider that issues it. However, while the plan is standardized, charges vary from insurer to insurer.
