Individuals who are 65 years or older, under 65 but have certain disabilities, and those who suffer from End-Stage Renal Disease all have the opportunity to enroll in Medicare.
There are four parts of Medicare available, but before you make a decision, let’s take a look at how each plan can benefit you!
Benefits of Medicare Parts A and B
Medicare Part A is a hospital insurance plan through Medicare. Some of the benefits included in Part A are:
- inpatient hospital stays
- skilled nursing facilities costs
- some home health care
- hospice care
Many of those who receive Medicare Part A are not required to pay a monthly premium due to the recipient or spouse paying Medicare taxes while working. This is also called “premium-free Part A.” And, because when you first become eligible for Medicare and Part A is one of the first plans to enroll in, this makes it a very cost-effective option.
Medicare Part B is referred to as Medicare’s health insurance coverage. Part B coverage consists of:
- certain doctors’ visits
- outpatient care
- medical supplies
- preventative services
Medicare Part B also requires a monthly premium, which is currently $148.50.
Original Medicare vs. Other Plans
Original Medicare includes both Part A and B coverage. This means great coverage, right? Right!
Now, even though Original Medicare provides a lot of hospital and medical coverage, there are still some things that go uncovered. Signing up for one of the ten Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans can help provide coverage for these out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles or coinsurance!
If you need prescription drug coverage, well, Medicare provides that too. You can enroll in a Part D plan alongside your Original Medicare coverage, or get it as an added benefit with a Medicare Advantage plan. Now, what are Medicare Advantage plans?
Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Medicare Part C, must cover all parts that Original Medicare covers. Some will even provide additional coverage, such as coverage for vision, dental, hearing, and wellness program services. Depending on your coverage area and the plans available, more benefits may be available to Medicare recipients.
With all this coverage in mind, you can see just how much Medicare can benefit you, depending on the type of coverage you need. That’s why at Sunsurance Agency, we can help you enroll in what you need!
